Social Updates: Facebook Sweepstakes Policy Update

Effective November 5, 2014, Facebook users were no longer required to ‘like’ a Business Page in order to enter the Social Sweepstakes. Previously, a user had to ‘like’ the community Business Page before being eligible for entry. All other aspects of managing entries and selecting the winners of the Sweepstakes will remain the same.

Facebook has required this change to improve quality connections and help businesses to better reach their target audience. The site wants users to ‘like’ Business Pages because they want to connect with and hear from the business, not solely because they want to enter a contest. Facebook believes this update will benefit both general users and advertisers.

The Social Sweepstakes App and marketing collateral have been updated to reflect these changes. Social clients will still benefit when promoting the Sweepstakes to grow traffic and retention on their Facebook Business Page.
